Hot Yoga - The Effects of Practice.

EFFECTS OF THE BARKAN METHOD HOT YOGA

Tuladandasana - Balancing Stick Pose
The PHYSICAL: The yoga asanas are designed to work internally and externally. Internally: improvements to the heart, spleen, kidneys, liver, and intestines are realized through consistent practice. Externally: the joints, muscles, tendons, and ligaments are all made stronger through The Barkan Method.

The MENTAL: As in all forms of yoga, the mind is strengthened through the discipline and concentration, which helps to eliminate stress, depression, anxiety, and other dysfunctional mental disorders. The Barkan Method helps to create a calming of the mind, quieting of the brain's chatter, and deep relaxation response.

The SPIRITUAL: As we strengthen the body and calm the mind, we open ourselves up for a transformational experience. Yoga was originally intended to be used as a tool to forget the body's consciousness, quiet the mind and transcend our limitations, allowing us the freedom for self-realization. This is the intention behind The Barkan Method Hot Yoga.

ABOUT JIMMY BARKAN, MY TEACHER

Jimmy BarkanJimmy has been teaching Hot Yoga since 1981 and opened his first South Florida school in 1983. His core teaching stems from his lineage in Calcutta, however James incorporates various postures from different styles of Hatha Yoga. The Barkan Method Hot Yoga and Hot Vinyasa sequences, set in the tradition of Tantra Yoga, continue to change and evolve as James unceasingly explores the Eight Limb Path in his personal practice and life.

". . . it is never too late to begin the practice of this yoga system, for it helps to rebuild the body, reenergize the mind, to revive lost youth, beauty and strength, to make youth last longer and to repair the damage silently done by wrong methods of living and by disobedience of nature's simple laws.  Body and mind are so closely related that if one is healthy, the other must also be so."
